It’s A Small World After All

I shouldn’t be allowed to keep a web log; whenever something interesting happens, I get too excited to think of writing an entry. It’s been a week already since my first meeting with the most important Dutch specfic publisher (M, part of De Boekerij), and only now do I remember to report on it.

He turned out to be a fun and interesting guy, extremely easy to talk to, with a heart for speculative fiction and a wealth of information about the Dutch specfic scene. Although he liked my writing, he wasn’t too encouraging about getting things published; nevertheless, he encouraged me to finish a book and let him read it. Well, it so happens that fits perfectly with my plans.

Also, he’s eager to encourage young Dutch writers and stimulate the local ‘scene’, and since the whole Writers of the Future event, so am I. So now we’re kicking ideas around about setting up some kind of workshop event at my favorite local bookstore and talking about Writers of the Future and the business of writing.

And to demonstrate how small the Dutch specfic scene really is: last Saturday I went to the bookstore to test the waters for our plan, and discovered that the girl who interviewed me last year for their newsletter is actually a close friend of this publisher!

I’m almost embarassed about ignoring the Dutch scene for so long…
