Serendipity

As research for a story I’m writing, I wrote an email to the keeper of the nearby Muiderslot Castle, which I want to use as the primary location for the story.

Coincidentally, it used to be the residence of Count Floris of Muiden, and that was the second thing the castle keeper remarked on, after first mentioning he is a great fan of science fiction. To round things off, his own name turned out to be Roeland, another Dutch name evocative of the age of knights and castles.

Of course, with all these coincidences floating around, Roeland was more than happy to invite me for a tour of ‘his’ castle and to provide me with maps of the place.
