Two Down, Four To Go

Not bad. Six submissions on Thursday, two rejections over the weekend.

  • Late Thursday night, Podcastle rejected Conversation with a mechanical horse. No big surprise there.*
  • And on Sunday, nancyfulda over at Baen’s Universe decided to pass on What happened while Don was watching the game. No big surprise there, either, and she writes the nicest rejections (especially now that I can imagine them in her voice; she attended the Villa Diodati workshop as well). WhwDwwtg–as it’s fondly known–is now with Fantasy Magazine.

* Their submission guidelines clearly state:

Most of our weekly stories will fall between about 2,000 and 6,000 words. […] Longer stories are difficult to fit into our upper time limit (defined rigorously as “The length of a morning commute”). We may run longer stories, but it will be a harder sell.

With Conversation weighing in at 10,000 words, there was little chance they’d pick it up. All I could hope for is that my remark about my own long commutes brought a smile to the editor’s face.
