‘Queen of Diamonds’ spent a total of 39 days at Interzone, before the (Dutch!) editor sent me the nicest, most extensive rejection. The story is, according to the editor, ‘competently told and a nice read‘, but still, a rejection is a rejection. Confusingly, most of the reasons why this editor doesn’t like QoD are the same reasons why Cat Sparks (editor of Agog! Ripping Reads) had such a hard time parting with it. Goes to show it’s all just a matter of taste.
